Marilyn has been associated with Barrett Farm for more than
20 years. In the early years, Marilyn enjoyed training and showing with Barrett
Farm at local Greater Orlando Hunter Jumper Association and “A” rated horse
shows throughout Florida. She is a founding member of the GOHJA and served as a
board member for many years. Marilyn also served as an officer on the board and
is a past president of the organization.
Before coming to Barrett Farm, Marilyn was accepted to ride
and study in Seville, Spain. In addition to her English and Dressage training,
she attended university classes in equine studies and stable management.
Now as a trainer with Barrett Farm for more than 11 years,
Marilyn enjoys teaching the inexperienced, scared and up and coming show riders
who come to Barrett for training. Beginners who want to show under Marilyn’s
tutelage go quickly to walk-trot, short and long stirrup championships.
In addition to training, Marilyn also assists Barrett Farm
in a variety of ways with her administrative and business experience.
“I especially enjoy working with beginner riders. There’s nothing better than being a part of the joy and excitement of a rider’s “first” time on a horse, trotting, cantering and jumping. Helping our riders excel and work through challenges to reach their goals is something they benefit from not only as a rider but as an individual as well. It’s tremendous watching our riders grow in an endeavor they love.”
